Now, the world really is a stage.

Satellites peer down upon us, as we peer into the screens onto which their images beam.

Every action we take online adds to the story the earth is writing.

The next chapter?

Do you have a project in mind?

Paintings of Vermeer
www.ccsf.caltech.edu/~roy/vermeer
Vermeer (1632-1675). The renowned, the famed, the much talked about, the controversial Vermeer. (Vermeer, who the ****’s Vermeer?) The man who loved to go around taking snapshots of life with the camera obscura (a kodak with no film in it), and being forced to paint the photo himself using canvas as film Now you can see snapshots of his snapshots, and wonder if the dude would survive today with a digital camera and photoshop 4.0, or would he be busy modelling clay holograms? Was he just a cheating scoundrel tracing his way to fame, or was his work more precious, more worth cherishing and appreciating for its sheer foresight as well as the delicately interpretative colours? Was it worth the trouble creating web-sites and links to these out-of copyright works? Go see. There is plenty to view and read.
Verdict: Camera Obscura, Vermeera Interestinga

An Unofficial Extreme 3D Home Page
groan.berkeley.edu/e3d
Here is a cool place to inspect the results of imaginative people playing with Macromedia’s Extreme 3D program. Looks like something you might want to have a fiddle with. Yes it’s a program you wont get a free trial for, but when you see the results, you will understand. You will want to pay for this! There are links, of course to other extreme 3D sites including Macromedia.
Verdict: So, that’s how the Simpson’s went 3D, it wasn’t a vortex behind the cupboard after all.

2KY Sport And Talk
www.2ky.com.au
Racing Radio Internet! This is a bold leap by an established, traditional Australian radio station to venture into cyberspace. They have done well, giving listeners an easy-to-navigate site with information about racing, gigs, programmes, and the strong line-up of talent the station can be proud of. The site, at the time of review, was still under construction, but the layout and categories are all in place. It will be a good one, if you are a 2KY listener, to bookmark. This is surely only the beginning for them, before too long we’ll have scratchings at Flemington updated by the minute on here. Already there are audio files of Race calls.
Verdict: The reviewer performed at the 2KY Staff Christmas party. He LOVE’s the site!!!

The Artists Den
magdalena.cs.nmt.edu
More like a giant stadium than a den, here we have a potentially world-beating art site. A complete showcase for any artist anywhere in the world, the Artists Den provides some high-tech facilities to show off art of all genre’s. Submit your own ‘art’, search, browse, enter a 3D gallery, there is even a separate hit counter for each work of ‘art’. Buy ‘art’, follow links to ‘artists’ home page. They truly have created a ‘global’ ‘artists’ ‘community’ right here at the above address! Artists dead or alive (mostly they are alive here) can put a host of information up on the site, add art as they create it and update their own info. There are thumbnails of everything at very low file size, so you dont have to wait hours for pictures you wont like.
Verdict: If you are an artist, get on this site! If you are an art aficionado, get your wallet out!

World Wide Arts Resources
www.wwar.com
A complete resource for art on the web. Its art, art, art more art than you can poke a paintbrush at. Art history, museums, publications, agencies, festivals… its ALL HERE! Over 150,000 arts pages and a search facility so you don’t spend the rest of your days at this site. You might want to, though, if you are an art freak. There is no shortage of goodies here. There is even a selection of art chat and bbs forums to while away your life.
Verdict: A good place to start. If you’re smart, dart to this art chart. This URL, we impart….now depart!

Alex’s Art Gallery
www.ozemail.com.au/~jsart
Melbourne surrealist artist Alex Jobbagy presents a fine selection of his drawings, paintings and computer art on his own site. He tells us his vision of the world briefly, and lets his art provide the details. Themes of social, environmental, and political thoughts interspersed with the human triumphs, struggles and change pervade this provocative body of work. True to the surrealist genre, there are skeletal parts hanging on washing lines and butterflies dripping through an hourglass. The guy has a wild imagination, and he will even make you a business card! An artist has got to eat!
Verdict: A great solo effort, a talented man.

Salvador Dali Museum, Florida
www.webcoast.com/Dali/dalimuseum.htm
This is an online version of the official American museum for the old dripping watch man himself. It is the largest collection of Dali’s work outside Spain, collected by friends of Dali, and sponsored by the government. There are 159 high resolution graphics of the staggering collection, and a good biography of the man. The site is simple, yet rich with splendour. After browsing through the collection, you can see why Dali was one of the most famous artists of the 1900’s. Great for students looking for material for a project.
Verdict: A simple site that lets the art speak for itself, and it certainly speaks volumes.

Hypnagogue
www.hypnagogue.com
Here are two totally happening dudes who have masterminded a CDROM “non-linear” film/fantasy world. The site is made up of large images which basically give the premise of Hypnagogue, information about the creators and glimpses into the world they have devised. The talents of the creators are obvious, and it looks like they’ve been burning the midnight oil for a few months working on this baby. 3-D architectural worlds where machine meets gene, form meets formless, art meets the future. There’s quite a bit to look at here, one gets the impression that the entire project on CDROM would be quite a feast to behold. The only set-back here is the large images, that take a while to load. You would think with their expertise, they could have devised another method to showcase their product, but then again, this is what will be on the CD - large, mind-bending images.
Verdict: Dream, vision, fantasy, imagination, colour, action, sound. These guys really need to get out more!
